How cool! We received almost twice the amount of the votes during the Exciting Eight round than we did during the Starting Sixteen round. Needless to say, the results were of course pretty interesting. We are getting closer and closer to crowning the champion for this challenge!
One of the tightest challenges was between Chateau Morrisette‘s Our Dog Blue and The Winery at Bull Run’s 2014 Delaney. The Delaney ended up edging out Our Dog Blue at the end to secure its spot in the Final Four. Both are sweeter white wines that won’t make you pucker up and go great with meals.
Now, the Delaney is facing off against Narmada Winery‘s 2011 Mom. While both are sweet, they do taste very distinct and the vintage difference could also come into play. Caret Cellars‘ 2014 Rosato came very close to defeating Mom as well and earned the distinction of being the best Rosé of the competition.
For the red wine side of the bracket, the winners won fairly soundly against their competitors. Paradise Springs Winery‘s 2013 Norton, despite not being offered on their normal tasting menu, beat Willliamsburg Winery‘s 2013 Two Shilling Red which can be purchased at most Total Wine stores.
Barren Ridge Vineyards‘ 2014 Red Barren had a good showing against Rosemont Vineyards‘ 2013 Kilravock. These two wines are very different from one another, with Red Barren being an accessible red wine that is more of a table red, whereas Kilravock is a robust red wine that can impress the biggest wine snob. With the Kilravock facing off against the Norton, it should be an interesting match!
Only two more rounds! Voting on the Fabulous Four will end on March 26, and the final match will go from March 27 through March 31. We will announce the champion on April 1!
